summer solstice

Summer solstice 2006 occurred at 12:26 UTC time today, June 21. To an observer at the intersection of the Prime Meridian and the Tropic of Cancer (23.5 degrees north latitude) the sun was directly overhead at 12:26 local time. Every other location along the Tropic of Cancer will find the sun directly over head at their local noon. Regardless, today is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Summer is officially here.
